After the huge success of the event in 2007, children’s charity Barnardo’s is again calling on the public to step up to the challenge to raise funds for vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Scotland. The inaugural Cairngorm 50k Challenge takes place on Saturday 30 August. Teams of brave individuals will cover a demanding 50k route - hiking 15k to conquer Scotland’s sixth highest Munro, Cairngorm, and then completing a 35k bike route through the breathtaking Glenmore and Abernethy Forests.
Competitors are invited to enter in teams of four, and have to complete this amazing course within 12 hours. Teams will receive an entry pack with training tips and materials, sponsorship guides and fundraising tips. As well as these goodies, all participants will be treated to a pre-event pasta party on Friday evening and a BBQ on the Saturday evening.
The event has been created to raise funds for some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children. The event registration fee is £100 per person, plus a minimum sponsorship of £450 per person needs to be raised. Funds raised will enable Barnardo’s Scotland to continue to support around 13,000 children in Scotland who face challenges every day of their life.
Barnardo’s Scotland’s Head of Fundraising, Margaret Morton, said: “Cairngorm can be a uniquely challenging environment, and the course will really test the competitors. The event itself will be a lot of fun, and very rewarding - especially for the children who will benefit from the funds raised.”
