Alpine Bikes acquire Off Beat Bikes and the Nevis Range bike shop franchise in Fort William • Alpine Bikes

Alpine Bikes Ltd, Scotland’s leading independent bicycle retailer, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Off Beat Bikes in Fort William, and the Nevis Range bike shop franchise for 2011

Off Beat Bikes was established in 1992 and is a well known and respected bike shop located on Fort William High Street. With Fort William’s reputation as world renowned mountain biking playground this acquisition is an exciting addition to the Alpine Bikes portfolio. The shop will under go a substantial refit involving the renovation of both floors, with new lighting and wall displays, prior to re-opening for business at the end of January 2011. New brands including Cannondale, Orange, Genesis, Gore Bike Wear and Bontrager will be added into the mix to ensure that the range will be second to none. Having stores in Fort William and Inverness will mean that Alpine Bikes will be able to offer a full hire service for visitors wishing to cycle the Great Glen Way with bikes available at both ends of The Way.

Alpine Bikes has also secured the summer season lease of the bike shop at Nevis Range commencing in spring 2011. Nevis Range sits at the centre of a fantastic area for mountain biking with everything from skills loops to an extensive network of cross country trails, and in the summer two world class downhill tracks accessed from the gondola.

Bryan Shedden, Director of Alpine Bikes, said: “The acquisition of Off Beat Bikes is an exciting move for Alpine Bikes giving us a fantastic opportunity to to build on the foundations of what is a very established and well respected business. The addition of the expanded bike shop at Nevis Range means that we can provide a fully stocked and extensive hire fleet for the World Cup downhill course and red routes as well as cross country and family bike hire.”

Marian Austin, CEO of Nevis Range, commented “We had already made the decision to extend the area available within the gondola base station for mountain bike hire and shop this year, so we were delighted when the opportunity came along to work with Alpine Bikes. They have a established a great reputation and have both the experience and resources to compliment the existing facilities, work alongside the organisers of the events held here annually and develop links with the onsite Bike School. Alpine Bikes at Nevis Range will add to Lochaber’s reputation as the Outdoor Capital of the UK.”
